The most common mistake that those
new to
working online make, perhaps, is simply never really getting started at
all.
It sounds crazy,
doesn't it? Yet, I see it
happen almost weekly. By accident or design, someone finds an online
business
opportunity, makes the decision to join, often spends some time going
through
the training, asking some questions, etc.....and then, nothing.
I used to think it
was similar to a
post-holiday "let down". The excitement of making a decision to
join....of learning about the business....of doing the most basic of
training....telling friends about your new "work", all of a sudden
became time to DO something. Realizing that "now it's up to me", some
find the very thought exhausting and the excitement (and commitment)
just fades
away when faced with the reality of "time to get to work on this"
surfaces.
I have a dear
friend who does this on a
regular basis. At least twice a month she is "high" on a new idea, a
new business, a new diet. She talks about it incessantly, describes
exactly
what WILL happen...she can tell you how this newest passion will affect
her
life next month, next year, etc. She has "visualization" down to a
fine art, bless her.
But if you ask
about her latest endeavor in a
week or two, there is always an excuse. There was too much work
involved, or
too much cost, or she tried and it didn't work -- all of this in one or
two
weeks, max!
At the same time,
I've seen people join me in
working online who have an unbelievable amount of optimism and
determination.
There are some who don't have the education you might think would be
necessary
-- who are now very successful. There are a few with extremely serious
health
problems who have days, even weeks, when work is impossible -- and they
are
also reaching success.
I work with some
who are on disability pay so
limited that it amazes me they can even survive -- yet they find the
money they
need for their business....with no complaints.
Sometimes the
challenge is emotional, rather
than physical or financial. Many of us were raised to believe that
"girls
don't do that....or don't do it well".....or that you should not
"call attention to yourself".....or "your brother is
outstanding....you are average". Often this was NOT the message that
was
intended....but your interpretation of the message made it very real to
you.
You get past such
limitations simply by
reaching a bit farther....then farther....then farther. With each small
success, the little "can't do it" voice in your mind gets quieter.
I love my
friend....but I'd rather have one
of my "challenged" business affiliates to work with any day.
The difference,
I've come to believe, is in
exercising -- stretching yourself to reach for your dreams. In our
spoiled
"I want it now" society, we talk a lot about our
"dreams"...but don't seem to be willing to give up anything to make
our dreams become our reality.
We fret about
self-image but don't do the
exercises necessary to improve the "image" you have of yourself!
Your dreams in
business are really your goals
-- and you must reach for them. You must stretch yourself as much as
possible...and then stretch some more. It is the only way to turn
dreams of
success into a life lived successfully.
Perhaps those who
have to struggle in life
every day have exercised more than the rest of us. When daily
activities
require you to stretch to the best you can be to accomplish the
simplest
tasks....reaching for a dream is perhaps not that much harder.
Success will not
land on your head....or in
your lap. You have to stretch as far as you can.....you need to
accomplish more
than you thought you could....and then do it again and again.
As with all
exercise, stretching yourself to
the utmost will make you stand taller....and will make you stronger.
It doesn't matter
where you are in life right
now. It is the only life you have. Exercise your mind and your
expectations....stretch as far as you can....live this one life as
richly as
you possibly can!
